Narrated by Al-Bara' (may Allah be pleased with him) through Ubaydullah bin Musa, from Isra'il, from Abu Ishaq: When the Prophet (peace be upon him) performed Umrah in Dhu al-Qa'dah, the people of Mecca did not allow him to enter Mecca until he agreed to stay there for only three days.
When they wrote the agreement, they wrote, "This is what Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, agreed upon." They said, "We do not recognize this. If we knew you were the Messenger of Allah, we would not have prevented you from anything, but you are Muhammad, the son of Abdullah." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "I am the Messenger of Allah, and I am Muhammad, the son of Abdullah." He then told Ali, "Erase 'Messenger of Allah'." Ali said, "By Allah, I will never erase you."
So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) took the document, though he was not skilled in writing, and he wrote, "This is what Muhammad, the son of Abdullah, agreed upon: he will not enter Mecca with weapons except a sheathed sword, and he will not take any of its inhabitants with him if they choose to follow him, nor will he prevent any of his companions from staying if they wish."
When the three days passed, they approached Ali and said, "Tell your companion to leave, as the time is up." The Prophet (peace be upon him) left, and the daughter of Hamza followed him, calling, "O uncle, O uncle!" Ali took her by the hand and said to Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), "Here is your cousin's daughter." Fatimah took her, and Ali, Zayd, and Ja'far disputed over her custody. Ali said, "I took her, and she is my cousin's daughter." Ja'far said, "She is my cousin's daughter, and her maternal aunt is my wife." Zayd said, "She is my brother's daughter." The Prophet (peace be upon him) ruled in favor of her maternal aunt and said, "The maternal aunt has the same status as the mother." He then said to Ali, "You are from me, and I am from you." To Ja'far, he said, "You resemble me in appearance and character." And to Zayd, he said, "You are our brother and our ally." Ali then asked, "Will you not marry the daughter of Hamza?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, "She is the daughter of my foster brother."

Narrated 'Ubaidullah bin Abdullah: Ibn Abbas said, "When the ailment of the Prophet (๏ทบ) became worse, he said, 'Bring for me (writing) paper and I will write for you a statement after which you will not go astray.' But Umar said, 'The Prophet is seriously ill, and we have got Allah's Book with us and that is sufficient for us.' But the companions of the Prophet (๏ทบ) differed about this and there was a hue and cry. On that the Prophet (๏ทบ) said to them, 'Go away (and leave me alone). It is not right that you should quarrel in front of me." Ibn Abbas came out saying, "It was most unfortunate (a great disaster) that Allah's Messenger (๏ทบ) was prevented from writing that statement for them because of their disagreement and noise. (Note: It is apparent from this Hadith that Ibn Abbas had witnessed the event and came out saying this statement. The truth is not so, for Ibn Abbas used to say this statement on narrating the Hadith and he had not witnessed the event personally. See Fath Al-Bari Vol. 1, p.220 footnote.) (See Hadith No. 228, Vol. 4).
